Effectiveness before efficiency

We are all acquainted with the concept of organizational efficiency and its benefits. However, increasing complexity of the environment requires the shift of managers' focus toward organizational effectiveness, while maintaining high level of efficiency. Organizational effectiveness is a measure of how effective an organization is within its environment, i.e., how well it fulfills its purpose by satisfying the needs of its customers and other stakeholders. In the words of Charles G. Chandler, effective organization "serves its environment so well that it becomes integral to it, securely occupying one or more niche(s), and improving the health of the environment as a whole." So, stop thinking solely about efficiency. Effectiveness is something that must be secured first and foremost!
